Most of the television shows influences viewer’s worldview and creates unrealistic expectations.Television distorts our understanding of reality. It’s filled with beautiful people doing amazing things and having great adventures every show. Anybody who has ever been a policeman, a lawyer, a psychiatrist, a nurse / doctor or an FBI agent will attest to the truth that television does not accurately portray their life. In almost all aspects, television rarely depicts the world and life accurately. Watching these shows too much results in disillusionment about what to expect from the world around us.
2. Isolates you from the real people all around you.
Watching series and living with the drama characters will take away you from real people and living real lives.TV addiction will lead to less social interaction. Life is more important than the TV schedule. Instead of watching TV, you could be playing with your family, hanging out with friends or doing an activity you enjoy.
3. Causes stress
When we concentrate watching interesting TV shows , we keep other things pending , like paying bills,spending time with the kids, and so on. After a while, these things build up and we begin to feel guilty and will feel stressed .Over time, elevated stress leads to health issues.
Some reality TV shows, dramas, thrillers, even documentaries can lead people to anxiety and stress.
4. Fills you with negativity
Just about every television show, from comedies, serials to reality shows and the news, is negative. If you look at almost any TV show there is a complete lack of positive redeeming messages. While there are exceptions to this rule they are few and far between, so choose carefully what you decide to spend your time watching.
5. TV slows down the brain activity
Research has shown that when you are watching TV, your higher brain regions shutdown, and activities shift to the lower brain regions. Your lower brain is set in a “fight or flight” response mode. In the long run, your higher brain regions experience atrophy due to lack of usage.Since TV is a 1-way medium, you don’t engage and interact.It impairs your capacity for rational thought.
