The day of an athlete begins with a bottle of energy drink. A group of scientists from Europe now exhorts to forget about energy drinks which refresh you after hectic exercises. The researchers from Baath University claims that there is no need of energy drinks if you take a teaspoonful of sugar. Sugar syrup is found best for marathon and other lengthy racers.
Mix a teaspoonful of sugar in water before you start the exercise. The glycogen content of liver decreases during exercises which in turn cause fatigue. They arrived at the conclusion by observing how different quantities of carbohydrate in different energy drinks prevent the decrease of glycogen in liver. For this they observed a cyclist. They gave him mixture of carbohydrate in the form of glucose and sucrose at different times. Both glucose and sucrose are storehouse of carbohydrate. Common sugar contains carbohydrates in large amount. Sucrose is made of glucose and fructose. These are the reasons why the people doing heavy exercises depend on energy drinks. But most of them consider only glucose as an energy drink. Daily intake of drinks containing glucose is harmful to health. Replacing this with the sugar syrup will do good. Studies were published in an American health magazine.
