6. Oru CBI Diary Kurippu (1988)
Oru CBI Diary Kurippu is a 1988 mystery thriller film directed by K. Madhu, written by S. N. Swamy, and starring Mammootty, Suresh Gopi, Jagathy Sreekumar, Mukesh, and Sukumaran. This film is the first in the series of the CBI investigative thrillers featuring Mammootty as CBI officer Sethurama Iyer. It was produced by M. Mani under the banner Sunitha Productions. The lead character, Sethurama Iyer is inspired by a police officer named Radha Vinod Raju, Jammu and Kashmir cadre IPS Officer who in 2009 was appointed as the first chief of India’s National Investigation Agency. He died in Kochi on 21 June 2012 at the age of 62, due to lung complications. The film crossed 200 days and became a huge hit in Tamil Nadu too.
7. Oru Vadakkan Veeragaadha (1989)
The film is based on a legend about the Chekavar warriors of present day north Malabar who practice the martial art form Kalaripayattu. The film won four National Film Awards (1989) including Best Actor (Mammootty), Best Screenplay (M. T. Vasudevan Nair), Best Production Design and Best Costume Design (P. Krishna Moorthy) and six Kerala State Film Awards. Chanthu was given a new leaf of life by MT Vasudevan Nair and Hariharan. The film completed 300 days in many centers.
8. Samrajyam (1990)
Samrajyam is a 1990 Indian gangster film directed by Jomon. The film stars Mammootty as Alexander, a powerful crime boss. The film crossed 200 days and created a market for Mammootty in Andhra Pradesh as well. A sequel to Samrajyam is announced under the title would be Samrajyam II: Son of Alexander with Tamil director Perarasu directing the movie.
9. Pappayude Swantham Appoos (1992)
Pappayude Swantham Appoos is a 1992 film written and directed by Fazil, starring Mammootty, Suresh Gopi, Badusha, Seena Dadi, Shobana in the lead roles. The music was composed by Ilayaraja. The movie explores the relationship between a father who is depressed after the death of his wife and his neglected son. Badusha won the 1992 Kerala State Film Award for Best Child Artist for his performance. The film was a commercial success. The film also crossed 250 days.
10. Hitler (1996)
Hitler is a 1996 film written and directed by Siddique, co-produced by Lal, and starring Mammootty in the lead role and Mukesh, Shobhana, Saikumar, Jagadish, and Vani Viswanath in supporting roles released along with Kalapani. The film crossed the magic number of 300 days.
11. Thalapathi (1991)
Thalapathi is a 1991 Tamil film written and directed by Mani Ratnam and produced by G. Venkateswaran. It stars Rajinikanth, Mammootty, and Shobana in the lead roles. The film was a massive success crossing 480 Days in Chennai and 200 days in other parts of South India.
