“The role of Padmini in the superhit movie ‘Friends’ was actually written for Manju Warrier”- revealed Mukesh in a famous tv show Badai Bungalow recently. Manju was the guest of episode for the promotion of her new release ‘Karinkunnam Sixes’.
Friends was a superhit movie of Siddique-Lal released in 1999 which portrayed the essence of friendship through a huge star cast-Jayaram, Mukesh, Sreenivasan, Meena, Sukumari etc. It was such a blockbuster that it was remade into Tamil.
Padmini was a strong character with a slight negative shade having great scope for performance. Manju was really excited to do the movie. But things changed upside down when she decided to get married. She retreated at the last minute as she decided to put an end to her professional life following new phase in personal life with Dileep.
This was an unexpected blow to the whole crew which were all set for the shooting. They literally hunted for an apt one. South Indian sensation, Meena won the lot. They changed the character to fit Meena into it. She did complete justice to ‘Padmini’.
Now both the actress made a come back to the industry after a break. Manju is now ready with her latest movie’ Karinkkunnam Sixes’ where she portrays the role of a volleyball coach. Meena is busy with her forthcoming movie with Mohanlal.
